Ishraki is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Visual Arts at NYU Shanghai who merges artistic and scientific inquiry to produce experimental experiences.
As a transdisciplinary researcher, Ishraki uses embodied performances, experimental research, and community engagement to create spaces and circumstances for discussing questions of ontology, ethics, and epistemology. Their research takes a sensory linguistic approach to question the foundational constructs upon which we (as individuals, cultures, or ecosystems) build our understandings of ourselves in relation with “others”—fundamentally challenging categorical definitions and searching for unified fields between disparate entities, ideas, and methodologies.
Recent projects like "Poetics of Inquiry: How to Stay with Trouble," "Bacterial Consent," and "Sensory Augmentation" exemplify an art-science collaborative approach, navigating the curious space between the known and the unknown.
Ishraki holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Cooper Union, and a Master of Science in Art, Culture, and Technology from MIT (The Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Recent works were shown at, MIT Museum, Distillery Gallery, Shanghai Live Arts Festival, Goethe-Institut Shanghai, NADA Curated, and UAAD x New Art City. Aside from exhibitions, Ishraki has also given talks at various academic institutions such as MIT, SUSTech, China Academy of Art and is currently based between Shanghai and New York City.
