On Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 4:30 to 5:45 PM, Professor Maya Kramer, Assistant Arts Professor of Visual Arts at NYU Shanghai, presented her talk "Fog Passage: Sense Making in the Arctic" at E402, East Hall, NYU Shanghai New Bund Campus. For nearly two decades, Professor Kramer has created sculptures and installations that probe relations between humans, ‘landscape’, and ‘nature’ in the age of the Anthropocene.
In her talk, she introduced her past work and shared insights from her participation in the June 2023 Arctic Circle Residency. This residency brought together a diverse group of professionals, including artists, musicians, and environmental historians, to sail around the Arctic. Professor Kramer discussed how this experience influenced her work and its implications for her future projects.
The event included a discussion from 4:30 to 5:00 PM, followed by a reception and on-site display at E802, the “Hub,” from 5:00 to 5:45 PM. Open to the NYU Shanghai community, the event required advance registration.
Professor Kramer’s Arctic expedition received support from the NYU Shanghai Scholar Travel Fund, the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Urban Design and Urban Science, and the NYU Shanghai Institute of Contemporary Art.
